Move Past Your Past – Part 34©

Being More Aware #34 ©

Awareness, as previously mentioned, is the first step on your moving past your Past. As I’ve said, it may come out of the blue, or simply no longer wanting a life continually filled with pain or drama, or the repetitive existing rather than living. There are other ways to acquire awareness; some people do it with meditation. It may take months, or even years before they get the idle mind chatter down, so they can realize the stillness. They then finally hear their own inner voice, though they may not even realize it is their voice at first. Once they’ve learned to plug into the stillness, and have learned to listen to that inner voice of intuition, ‘suddenly’ they become aware of a whole other world that was actually there, but not ‘seen’ because they lacked awareness. It can be simple things like colors, sensitivity to touch, or honest feelings about something they didn’t have before, or seeing themselves or those around them clearly in the mirror.

Exercise: We can start making changes in our life without awareness, but it would be like living haphazardly or Rube Goldberg style where all is simply thrown together, and may break at any moment’s notice. Not exactly having a solid foundation or knowing what might befall oneself from one moment to the next – perhaps is not the best choice. Yet,  one might choose to purposely put awareness into practice by slowing down and doing more observing. This will only take a day or two, or if you are brave, give it a week. Absolutely, everything – every single habit or basic thing you do – you do differently with awareness of what and how you are doing it. From the time you get up in the morning, make it the other side of the bed. If your bed is against the wall or your partner sleeps on ‘their’ side, just change for one night to see the difference. How does that feel? What thoughts come in? What do you do first – shower, brush your teeth, etc.? Try to reverse or change the order of what you do and how you do it – brush your teeth first, or start your shower with your feet instead of your face or arms. Pretend you have a broken arm or leg, how would you Have to do it all differently? Does the weather affect you? How? I had very little experience with fog before San Francisco, now I love it!

How do you choose your clothes, put them on? Change it. When do you have breakfast or eat for breakfast? Change the order and change your menus for lunch and dinner also. Change your whole process for going to work, or your usual daily routine. If you drive, go a different direction as much as you can. Try public transportation – now for some people, especially those who live in the suburbs and in their vehicles, this can be an eye opener of a whole other world. Yes, you will have to plan in a lot of extra time for this whole experiment, but I guarantee it will be worth it in the long run. How often do you walk around your neighborhood? Living in San Francisco and about three-quarters up a high hill, I work at walking everyday. The hills, and my destinations, contribute to which way I’m going. Yet, when I’m just out walking, I do make the effort to go off down different streets to let my feet and exploring take me to the destination. It never ceases to amaze me how often I see a new building being built – which here with our limited space – means something had to be torn down. I have stood staring, searching my mind to remember when was the last time I was by that area and exactly what was there prior. If you’re speeding by in a car – especially an expressway – what do you really see?

This whole process should bring you to eye-opening awareness as to how much you don’t notice on a daily basis. It may be something small like a package or item left on a side table in your office, or a new painting hung in the lobby, or flowers or a new hair style of someone that you see daily. Those things that you did not notice before, with changing your routine, you begin to notice, to be aware of what is around you – the good, the bad or simply the different. So, what is the advantage of all of this? With awareness comes discernment, and with discernment comes the realization that everything really is a choice. Those things that you choose that make you happy, those that you feel you must do, or those that you rationalize as it is easier to do than create a wave, or confrontation, or even havoc. Awareness also brings to mind what you might do differently because you are responsible, accountable, respective of others, or the environment or simply life. In other words, awareness can open a Pandora’s Box, which means you can’t go back, you have to deal with it. Again, it is about change. Is this the way I want to live my life, which I know is finite in this body with a limited warranty of existence? Do you need to have some acquaintance die to make you see it all?

So you see how powerful awareness is, no matter what path you take to it, the results are the same – change. Your path may spiral around, or your journey may have many detours or tangents that you explore, or adventure off for some experience. But once you are ready, you will come to understand your Divine Destiny, that was chosen by you before you were even born into this life, which you also chose. It will again be your awareness of your acceptance of all that you need to do to fulfill that Destiny, whatever it may be that leads you to make the right choices. By this time you will have learned to follow the voice of intuition. Once you are in the flow, the Universe brings all the things to you that you need to make sure that your life is harmonious. Now in a joyous bliss, you know who you are and why you are here. Amazing thing that awareness – it is all about living in the now – being in touch with yourself and others.

Technology can not replace the pure, personal human contact experience. Too many people are hooked on the internet or simulation games. Many young people, or those wanting to be up-to-date, take a pride in techno-gadget skills. Others believing in the energy of interpersonal skills, think it is actually the need for attention, disguising itself as social connections. It is limiting life by receiving one’s communication second hand, yet almost beguiling – tempting people that they are needed. An attachment separation has been created as to being in control of others. This kind of ego flaunting is indulging oneself into an imitation of life, and if the person is put into a live-action situation, they may not hold their own or the responsibility to what they’ve said or done. Granted, through diversity – looks, talent, interests, etc. – you find new ways of connecting with one another, that you could not have found, but are they real? Being individuals with different thoughts and beliefs is what makes us who we are. As life is experienced individually, we then learn to share our experiences with others on the path who need direction or support – “understanding releases fear.” Synchronicity, the capacity to manifest things, people, and circumstances into your life, is collaborated with believing things show up because of your thoughts. There is no coincidence in this world, just conditions/causes coming together with infinite God/Source intelligence guiding these happenings. Every thought is connected, as each of us are. Make it real.
